UNDERSTANDING ROAS
ROAS helps you understand how much revenue your advertising generates for every unit of money spent on a campaign. Use it to evaluate advertising performance and make more informed marketing decisions.
THE ROAS FORMULA
Divide the revenue attributed to your advertising by the amount spent on that advertising.
EXAMPLE
Every $1 spent generated $4 in revenue.
INTERPRETING YOUR RESULTS
ROAS expresses the relationship between advertising spend and attributed revenue. These examples show how to read common ROAS values.
The campaign generated $1 in revenue for every $1 spent on advertising. Other business costs are not included.
The campaign generated $2 in attributed revenue for every $1 spent on advertising.
The campaign generated $4 in attributed revenue for every $1 spent on advertising.
Important: These examples explain the ratio, not campaign profitability. A higher ROAS is not automatically more profitable; product costs, operating expenses, margins and attribution accuracy also matter.
HOW TO USE THIS TOOL
Choose the currency used for your campaign. Revenue and advertising spend must use the same currency.
Add your total advertising spend and the revenue attributed to that advertising campaign.
Calculate your ROAS and review the result alongside your campaign objectives, margins and other costs.
KNOW THE DIFFERENCE
ROAS measures revenue generated relative to advertising spend. Return on Investment (ROI) evaluates the return against the investment and can account for costs beyond advertising, depending on how it is calculated.
| Metric | What It Measures |
|---|---|
| ROAS | Attributed revenue relative to advertising spend. |
| ROI | Return relative to investment, based on the costs and returns included in the calculation. |
